The new space suits of NASA are called xEMU. xEMU, the space suit of the Artemis program. When the Space Shuttle entered service, it came with a new spacesuit: the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (hence EMU). The space agency recently put out a request for information from commercial companies, asking for input on how to best transition the suit to a future contractor. As part of the Artemis program that aims to send humans back to the Moon, the US space agency must update its equipment for the mobility, safety or comfort of astronauts.. The space suits currently used on the International Space Station were designed some 40 years ago. It remains the main operational spacesuit for NASA, despite its 30-year-old parts and even older design, and has allowed for many feats of human engineering. The xEMU suit will be the first suit worn on the moon's surface since NASA's Apollo program sent the last astronauts to the moon in 1972.
