Black hole thermodynamics

In this paper, will review the discovery of black hole thermodynamics and summarize the many independent ways of obtaining the thermodynamic and (perhaps) statistical mechanical properties of black holes. Thermodynamic black holes have not just mass, charge and rotation, but also temperature and entropy. Black hole entropy naturally engendered the generalized second law which has found innumerable applications, from ruling out many conceivable black hole processes or conceivable denizens of the universe, to suggesting entropy bounds of various sorts to restricting the evolution of inflationary cosmological models through a natural extension of concepts. The theory of general relativity predicts that a sufficiently compact mass can deform spacetime to form a black hole. Classically, black hole thermodynamics is a formal analogy between black holes and statistical thermodynamics. It was originally put forth by Jacob Bekenstein in his landmark 1973 paper [1], in which he proposed treating black holes thermodynamically, and argued that the entropy should be proportional to the area of the event horizon. A black hole is a region of spacetime where gravity is so strong that nothing—no particles or even electromagnetic radiation such as light—can escape from it. Black hole thermodynamics and the Zeroth Law [1,2].
